The Bee Project
SINCE 2016
To date, we have distributed over 2.3 million bee-friendly seeds, significantly expanding the natural habitat and food sources available to our native bees. We are dedicated to saving the native bees of Australia by creating a natural habitat for them through our Bee Pure initiative. The Bee Pure Project is a special Pure initiative in support of Australian bees to fight the declining bee population. With this project, we expand the natural habitat and food sources available to our native bees.
Tree Planting Initiative
SINCE 2018
Pure's greenhouse emissions have been independently audited and certified as carbon neutral. We have taken significant steps towards reducing our impact on the environment, including our investment in the Yarra Yarra biodiversity project in Western Australia. "AMMONIA-FREE" DOESN'T MEAN "DAMAGE-FREE"
At Pure, we notice more brands promoting “ammonia-free” hair products, making is seem like ammonia should be avoided.
However, “ammonia-free” does not necessarily mean “damage-free”.THE SCIENCE BEHIND HAIR COLOUR
All permanent hair colours require an alkalizer to open the hair cuticles, allowing the colour to penetrate and form pigments. Ammonia is commonly used for
this purpose. It’s a small molecule that evaporates after doing its job, which is why it has a brief smell. This evaporation means ammonia doesn’t stay in the hair,
helping maintain its condition with a vibrant shine and hair health. Ammonia has been used safely in permanent hair colour for over 100 years, providing reliable
lightening up to four levels, excellent white coverage, and vibrant colour results.MEA: AMMONIA DERIVATIVE
MEA (monoethanolamine) is another alkalizer with a reduced chemical smell. It’s suitable for situations where significant lightening isn’t required.
At low concentrations, MEA performs well in terms of colour results and hair protection, which is why it’s used in our Pure Evoke range.
However, MEA is a larger oil molecule than ammonia and doesn’t evaporate. This makes it harder to remove from hair, potentially causing long-term damage
as is continues to process even after correctly shampooing, especially when used in the highter concentrations needed for permanent colours.COMPARING AMMONIA AND MEA
Ammonia provides the best colour results with minimal damage, ensuring hair remains strong and healthy in our Pure Evolve permanent colour range.
In contrast, MEA is used in semi-permanent colours like Pure Evoke, Artisan and Luminates. Compared to non-ammonia permanent colours, ammonia-based
technology results in less damage over time, keeping your hair significantly stronger. -
